Blake Shelton admits he and Gwen Stefani started out as a “rebound deal” — but could marriage be next?

Photo by John Shearer/Getty Images via ABCWhen Blake Shelton initially started dating Gwen Stefani, he admits they both were on the rebound from their previous relationships. The “I Lived It” hitmaker makes the straightforward comment in a new interview with Willie Geist that airs on NBC’s Sunday Today.

“When I was going through my divorce, I hit rock bottom, just like anybody does when they go through something that devastating,” he tells Geist. “It’s a miracle that I met somebody that was going through the same exact thing that I was at the exact same moment in time.”

The two met on The Voice, and started dating in the wake of Blake’s unexpected split from Miranda Lambert in 2015. At the time, Gwen was also divorcing her husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale.

“If Gwen and I were being honest right now, talking about this, I think in the back of our minds we both kind of thought, ‘This is a rebound deal,’” Blake says candidly.

He goes on to confess he and Gwen were “kind of clinging to each other to get through this,” after “coming out of a pretty low spot in our lives.”

Fast forward to 2018, and the couple is so solid, talk of marriage often comes up — at least in the media.

“Here we are, going on three years later,” Blake adds, “and every day that goes by it just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us and it constantly feels like it’s going to the next level.”

You can hear Blake’s full conversation with Willie Geist this weekend, starting at 8 a.m. ET on NBC’s Sunday Today.
