The Man I Want to Be: Charlie Daniels honors Chris Young as a patriot at fundraising dinner

ABC/Image Group LA Chris Young picked up the inaugural Charlie Daniels Patriot Award earlier this week at a special fundraising dinner in Music City.

The Country Music Hall of Famer presented Chris the honor Tuesday at a sold-out event at The Palm for his Journey Home Project.

“I am immensely grateful to our military and their families for the sacrifices they make for our country,” Chris says, “and incredibly humbled to receive the Patriot Award honor from Charlie and The Journey Home Project.”

In the past, Chris has played for U.S. soldiers stationed in the Middle East, South Korea and Japan.

Charlie’s Journey Home Project supports veterans as they return, rehabilitate, and reintegrate back into civilian life. This year’s dinner raised more than $200,000, making it the most successful one so far.

Saturday night, Chris plays for a hometown crowd, as his Losing Sleep World Tour stops in Nashville. His latest single, “Hangin’ On,” is currently in country’s top ten.
